FAQ page Tailored Optical

What is my PD and how do I measure correctly?

PD stands for Pupillary Distance, which is the distance between the centres of your pupils. It is an important measurement in optics, especially for prescription glasses, as it helps ensure that the lenses are aligned properly with your eyes. To ensure we get an accurate PD measurement, follow these steps:

  1. Camera setup: Use a smartphone or camera with good resolution to capture clear images (most smartphones will work).

  2. Proper Lighting: Stand in a well-lit area to ensure face is well illuminated.

  3. Reference Object: Take a standard-sized card, like a credit card or ID card and place it on forehead. This will serve as a reference object for scaling.

  4. Gaze straight ahead: Look directly at camera, not at yourself, and keep your head level.

  5. Distance: Stand about 8 inches (20 cm) away from camera to capture a close-up image.

  6. Take Multiple Photos: Taking multiple photos allows us to ensure measurement is clear.

  7. Send Photos: Once you are happy with your photos, you can send them to info@tailoredoptical.co.uk with your full name and order number as a reference. Or alternatively after purchase you will receive a confirmation email with links and details of how to upload Jpeg images of your Prescription and PD.

Any images and personal information received by Tailored Optical will be kept confidential and used only for the purpose of PD measurement.

What do the frame sizes mean?

Frame size is defined by lens and bridge width, lens height and arm length. These values are always displayed in millimeters. If you wear glasses, you’ve likely noticed some numbers on the temple and wondered what they mean. These numbers indicate the lens and bridge width, which determine the frame size and arm length.
